Calm Down, Lighten Up

(Aug. 19, 2010) In most situation, things go better when everyone remains calm.  That's true for cattle, too, including those about to enter the food chain.  Excited cattle can become "dark cutters," lowering progit and causin beef deman challenges, says David O'Diam, brand extension manager for Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB)>

7/21/2010 1:11:08 PM Source: Mary Lou Peter, Kansas State University--Compared to people, cattle have a distinct disadvantage when it comes to handling some kinds of heat. Soaring temperatures and high humidity are taking a deadly toll, a Kansas State University veterinarian said. 

 

Feed Focus- (July 2010) One of the phenomena to deal with in the feed business is how ethanol plants operate and how to match that up with the cycles inherent to the beef cattle business. What I mean is the cycle for most back grounding cattle is October through January, with November through April being when most of the purchased feeds are fed to the cow herd.
